How can I help?

The last 10 days have been hard on all of us. Some of us were hit harder than others. The Wilchester Community has been out helping in various ways since the storm hit our area…feeding first responders, rescuers, and flood victims, rescuing people and belongings, helping in shelters and at churches, watching over houses for neighbors, cleaning and trying to salvage homes and belongings, housing displaced family, friends, and strangers, …the lists goes on and on. If you haven’t taken the time to complete the family status survey from Mr. Evans, please do. Click here
If you are looking for ways to help those affected by the floods,
here are a few ideas:
* The Wilchester Women’s Club is collecting gift cards to distribute to flood victims in 77079. Visa, MasterCard, local restaurants, HEB, Costco, Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes…in any amount. You can drop off gift cards at 13407 Barryknoll Lane or square cash Jocelyn Good at $JocelynGood and she will buy the gift cards.
* Many schools in SBISD do not have PTAs and communities that can help out financially or with collections of needed items. If you are willing to help out staff from other schools, please contact Sara Oliver.
*You can contribute to the Spring Branch Education Foundation Pledgecents campaign to help families and facutly in SBISD with flood relief. To dontae, click here .
* Have your children go through their book collections and choose a book(s) to donate. Flooded families were able to salvage a few items from their homes, but books could not be saved. There will be a collection container available at school next week. We will also accept games and puzzles. If you would like to drop off items earlier, you can leave them at 13514 Pinerock Lane.

Click Here to see different ways to volunteer at Wilchester!

ou need to register to a volunteer through SBISD to be able to volunteer at the school and in the classroom. Please do this by October 1st. Click here to register to volunteer with SBISD. This needs to be redone every year. If you plan to volunteer at multiple schools in SBISD, you can check the boxes for each school on the same application.
You can join Wilchester PTA by clicking here. This also needs to be renewed every school year.

Wilchester Underwriting

Thank you to all of our local businesses and Wildcat families that helped us exceed our $50,000 underwriting goal during our “50 for 50” campaign last year. We hope you can help us “Crush It” once again. Funds raised through the underwriting campaign go directly towards valuable PTA programs such as field trips, science fair, math and reading curriculum, technology tools, etc. Underwriters of $250 and above will have a featured ad or photo in the Wilchester directory.

You may contribute online or use the reply form. This year there will be two other major opportunities to contribute to the Wilchester PTA: Boosterthon in November and Carnival in March 2018.

Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.

Also, many companies have Corporate Matching Programs which counts towards your donation amount. If you need help with matching programs, please contact Lara Ryan.

Thank you for your continued support of Wilchester Elementary and the efforts of the PTA.

Wilchester Birthday Book Club

Introducing a new program for 2017-2018:

Wilchester Birthday Book Club!

This program is a great way to honor birthdays at WCE and help
enhance our school library with new book titles.

How to Donate a Birthday Book Club Book:
1. Prior to your child’s birthday month, visit our wish list on Amazon.
2. Click on “Find a List or Registry” then, where it asks for a person’s name or email address, enter “Wilchester Birthday Book Club”.
3. Browse through book titles to find one that your child would love, or you can use the search feature to look for a specific title, author, or genre.
4. If you purchase through Amazon (or better yet, Amazon Smile!- with Wilchester Elementary School as your designated charity), please list the item as a gift and include a gift message with your child’s name and age/birthday.
5. If you’d rather purchase a book from the list at a local bookstore, you can. Just drop the book off at 13514 Pinerock with a note including the child’s name and age/birthday.

* If you would like to purchase a title not found on the list, please contact Leslie Valentine before doing so.
** This list has been carefully prepared to include books that are not already in our school library, ones that are school-appropriate, and ones that would enhance the selection of books at our school. You will find that the list consists of hundreds of books varying in genre and age/reading level.

Once you’ve ordered a Birthday Book Club book:
PTA will affix a label inside the book with your child’s name and birthday information on it:
This book is donated to the Wilchester Library in honor of Sydney Valentine’s 9th Birthday – August 2017
Books will be delivered once a month during school hours. The honorees will be the first to receive and read the books. When they’re finished, they will return the books to the library for others in the school to check out and enjoy.

If you choose to participate in this program, plan ahead!
Books will start being delivered in September.
Summer birthdays may be celebrated at any time during the year.

December delivery – December 1st
January delivery – January 12th

Sister School Program

We Need Your Help!

Our Sister School, Spring Shadows Elementary, has ongoing needs for the Blessing in a Backpack program. Blessings in a Backpack is a weekend food program for children at risk of going hungry. Wilchester helps by collecting food donations each month and by delivering bags to students at Spring Shadows every Friday.

100% of the children Spring Shadows qualify for free and reduced lunch. For the upcoming school year, Wilchester volunteers will help deliver 500 weekend bags through our partnership with Bayou City Blessings in a Backpack. We are looking for volunteers to pack bags, transport bags and deliver bags to the children in the program.

September Food Focus:

Individual Oatmeal Packets
Look for our drop box in the front foyer.

Spring Shadows Elementary had 5 teachers that flooded their homes and lost almost everything. If you would like to contribute to gift cards to help these families rebuild their lives, you can square cash Marty at $Marty Chapman or drop off money/check to 326 Patchester by tomorrow. Gift cards will be delivered onSeptember 15th.
